I read an article this week where the author made a comment about E3 no longer being necessary in this day and age of gaming.? (Sorry I can?t find it now.)? It got me thinking, was this person right?
Their big argument was that with mobile and downloadable games E3 isn?t necessary because gamers are getting their favorite pastime in new and quicker ways.? It did state that for console gamers it is still somewhat valid because not all of that is downloadable, but for the most part it?s an old convention that should just no longer be put on every year.
On one hand, I agree because gamers can download games to their consoles, phones, pads, and computers without leaving the comfort of their homes.? On the other hand, some of the biggest news is announced at this yearly event.? The anticipation is always high and the surprises can be awesome.
For PC gamers it might not be something to think about since the majority of news is console related but not all the games revealed are for the Xbox, PlayStation, or Wii.? However, the computer games do seem to get the short end of the stick at this event.
Couldn?t game makers and developers just do an online announcement on a certain day that would be the same as E3?? They could but for some it might not have the same impact.

I have been a gamer for over 20 years and a writer for longer than that. I was a gamer before it was "ok" for girls to play games. My preference is RPG's over everything else but I also like fighting games, action, adventure, sims, platform, puzzle, and casual games. My writing consists of any topic which I feel passionately about, gaming being one of the top things. I also write fantasy novels. I am a member of the SCA and love being able to dress in medieval clothes (see why I prefer RPG's?)
